so motorola has gone and bought out meshnetworks. in some sense, i'm not suprised given that motorola has also taken to liking experimental wireless technology like UWB. meshnetworks, at least the last time i looked at it seemed to be a cool idea, but imho, it is the mobile ad-hoc people trying to use what they've learnt in the corporate world, rather than on the battlefield. it seems like a reasonable extension, except i think the 2.4GHz will be so saturated with wifi, bluetooth, microwaves, etc, that it will present some real serious challenges to being able to deploy these in any reliable way in urban environments.
however, with that said, many big corps seem to think that is the way to go, even microsoft research has some publications on it.
